“Why should I be a Students LIVE Reporter for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games?”
I would absolutely LOVE to be a Student Reporter for the 2010 Olympic or Paralympic Winter Games because I am an Olympic fanatic. Every two years when the Olympics rolls around, no matter winter or summer, I am always planted on my couch watching all the events. I have dreamed of being able to actually attend the Olympics, and now the Olympics are coming to my home town. This is SO exciting! I have lived in North Vancouver my whole life, and I am so proud that the games are coming here.
I can remember in the summer of 2008, I was up in Whistler with my family during Crankworx. All this stuff was going on at the bike hill, and in the village, but I spent most of my time in the condo watching the Torino Olympics. All I could think was, ‘WOW, the next Olympics are going to be right here, on this mountain!’ It is so cool that they are going to be right here and I want to get involved and take part in this amazing event.
About a week ago I went out and bought my Olympic mittens, and I’d have to say it was the highlight of my week. Every time I see an Olympics 2010 commercial on TV I get so excited. I can feel the Canadian spirit in the air, and all I can think is ‘Why can’t February come any sooner?’ In my school agenda and in my family calendar I have had a countdown to the Olympics going for months now. Today we are 95 days away. I can hardly wait! I spend hours on the CTV website watching videos on our Canadian athletes, and on the vancouver2010 website reading articles, watching videos and playing games on the Olympics. This just shows how truly excited I am, and how passionate I am for the Olympics.
I also think it would be such an amazing experience because I am really into sports; I play ice hockey, soccer, field hockey, swimming, snowboarding, skiing, inline hockey, and softball. Being a Canadian, I would have to say that ice hockey is my favourite out of them all. I am very passionate about all my sports, I love to play them, and I love to watch pretty much any sport as well. I have a fairly good knowledge for sports, seeing as I play so many of them. I think that I would be good as a student reporter because I am so into sports, passionate about the Olympic Games, and have good energy and enthusiasm. Also in the future I would love to be a journalist or news reporter, so this would be a great opportunity to experience what it would be like. I would be so honoured to have this experience!
The Olympics are probably the largest international event out there, they represent peace, and I think that every Olympic Games brings the world a little bit closer. This is Vancouver’s time to prove to the world what an amazing city we are. It is really a once in a lifetime experience to have the Olympics in your hometown and for me to be a part of them would be a dream come true!
Follow my journey as a Students Live reporter through the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond!
